Coldplay is sentimental, melodramatic, mainstream fodder for dull simpletons content with mediocre and often meaningless lyrics disguised only by Chris Martin's moaning vocals, though admittedly "God Put a Smile..." etc. was catchy. That;s not to say Radiohead aren't often guilty of the same, ie "A gun and a pack of sandwiches, or nothing", at least it's likely to be a lyrical device in keeping with the song.
